The State of Israel recognized the state independence of the Republic of Tajikistan in 1991, and on March 26, 1992, diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Israel were established.
In October 1995, during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the UN, in the margins of the UN General Assembly, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the с of Israel Isaac Robin.
The Agency for Development of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel (MASAV) regularly conducts training courses in the State of Israel, to which representatives of the Republic of Tajikistan are also invited.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Israel on holding bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries was signed as a result of the first meeting of the parties on February 27, 2013 in Dushanbe. Currently, the draft of seven cooperation documents are being considered by the parties.
The level of trade turnover between Tajikistan and Israel does not meet today's needs and opportunities. In 2020, the volume of foreign trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the State of Israel reached 479.4 thousand US dollars.
Cooperation has also been established between some ministries and agencies of the two countries. In early 2000, a group of Israeli health and agriculture experts visited Tajikistan. In particular, in the form of exchange of experience in 2006 a group of specialists and ophthalmologists from Israel visited Tajikistan and together with their Tajik counterparts performed 40 surgeries at the Republican Center for Ophthalmology.
On June 2-6, 2016 the official visit of the Chairman of the Israel-Tajikistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Sharren Haskel, Member of the Knesset of the State Duma of the State of Israel Joseph Yona to the Republic of Tajikistan was held.
During the visit, the delegation met with the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Chairman of the Tajik-Israeli Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Defense and Labor, Migration and Employment.
