Relations between Tajikistan and Egypt

Egypt recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on January 1, 1992. Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt were established on April 1, 1993.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Arab Republic of Egypt is Zarobiddin Kosimi. From April 13, 2018, Ihab Ahmed Talaat Nasr was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Tajikistan.

The first high-level meeting between the heads of two states - the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Emomali Rahmon and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mr. Hosni Mubarak was held in December 1994 on the margins of the 7th Summit of Heads of States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (former Organization of the Islamic Conference) in Dorulbaizo, the Kingdom of Morocco.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan made official visits to the Arab Republic on February 4, 2007, March 9-11, 2022 and a working visit on November 7-8, 2022 to participate in the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), which played an important role in developing friendly relations between the two countries.

In addition, in 2017, two meetings took place between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Emomali Rahmon and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mr. Abdul Fattah al-Sisi: on May 20 in the city of Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the Arab Islamic American Summit and on September 5 in the city of Xiamen of the People's Republic of China on the sidelines of the Dialogue on Developing Countries and BRICS Member States.

The regulatory framework for bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Egypt consists of 19 documents.

On October 3, 2019, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and Egypt took place in Cairo.

In 2007, during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to Egypt, a Joint Intergovernmental Commission on economic, technical and scientific cooperation between the two countries was established. The first session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission was held on January 23-27, 2009 in Dushanbe.

The second meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on economic, scientific and technical cooperation was held in Cairo on November 27-28, 2019. At the end of the meeting, the Protocol of the second meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission was signed.

There are many priority areas of cooperation between Tajikistan and Egypt. The two countries, on the basis of positive mutual relations, have the similar or close positions on many global and regional issues and constantly support each other.
