Participation of the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN in the meeting of the member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC)

On 3 March 2016 the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan has attended and addressed the meeting of the member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) under the chairmanship of the Permanent Representative of Botswana to the United Nations.  

In his statement the Permanent Representative has briefed the Group on the contribution of Tajikistan in implementation of the Global Sustainable Development Agenda, including in such spheres as economic and social development, gender equality, fight against illicit drug trafficking, natural disasters prevention, and new initiatives of the President of Tajikistan on the water recourses management, in particular implementation of the International Decade “Water for Sustainable Development”.

In conclusion, the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan has called upon the member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to support the candidature of Tajikistan to the membership in the Economic and Social Council for the term 2017-2019, at the elections to be held on 14 June 2016 at the United Nations General Assembly.
