Tajikistan and Afghanistan state boundary

Republic of Tajikistan in the south borders with Afghanistan. Total lengths of the Tajik-Afghan state boundary is 1374.2 km, from which:

  •  1184,4 km – river border;
  •  189.8 km – land border.

The issues related to delimitation and demarcation of the Tajik-Afghan state boundary found their solutions.

The cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and Afghanistan in border-related matters is carried out based on the following main international treaties:

- Agreements between the USSR and Afghanistan dated 13.06.1946 and 16.06.1981;

- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on the state boundary dated 22.12.1993;

- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on the border crossing points dated 27.04.2005;

- Protocol of 21.10.2013 on amendments to the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on the border crossing points dated 27.04.2005.
