On 28 November 2016 in Budapest, Hungary on the sidelines of the Budapest Water Summit by the initiative of Tajikistan and in cooperation with the International Meteorological Organization there was organized a Side Event entitled “Strengthening efforts in addressing water-related disaster risk reduction”.
Mr. Sirodjidin Aslov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, in his statement has particularly stressed upon the need for enhanced cooperation at the national, regional and international levels on prevention and mitigation of the consequences of water related natural disasters, exchange of information and knowledge, establishment of national and regional funds for assistance to the least developed and other vulnerable countries.
The event was attended by Mr. Petteri Taalas, Secretary General of the International Meteorological Organization, Mr. Han Seung-Soo, Chairman of the High-Level Expert Panel on Water and Disaster (HELP) and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Christian Friis Bach, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, Mr. Tagegnework Gettu, Assistant Administrator of the UNDP and other high-level experts.
