Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Australia were established on December 26, 1991.
Since July 16, 2016, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to the Republic of Tajikistan is Mr. Peter Tesch.
Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to the Republic of Tajikistan, Mrs. Margaret Toumi, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on April 23, 2009.
On January 28, 2010, in the framework of the Conference on Afghanistan in London, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, H. Zarifi, met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia.
On May 10, 2012, consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries were held in Dushanbe.
On 3-5 July 2013, a delegation of Australia led by the Ambassador on Special Assignments of the Foreign Ministry of this country on counter-terrorism issues, Mr. William Fisher, visited. Meetings were held at the Ministry of the Interior and the National Security Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan.
On July 10-11, 2013, the working visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan to Australia took place. During the visit, he held meetings with the Minister of Trade, , as well as with representatives of the state organization for the development of trade AUSTREID. The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues and expressed a mutual desire to develop bilateral cooperation.
On April 28, 2014, Ambassador of Australia had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.
On April 28-29, 2014, the Australian delegation visited Tajikistan. During the visit, meetings were held with the heat of ministries of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Foreign trade turnover between the countries in 2018 amounted to 1,791,700 thousand USD.
