Remarks of the Tajik delegation at the working session on tolerance and non-discrimination, including an address from the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities, the rights of people belonging to national minorities at the OSCE Meeting

On September 23, 2019 in Warsaw, at the working session of the OSCE Meeting on the Implementation of Human Dimension Commitments on Tolerance and Non-Discrimination, including an address from the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, the Deputy Head of the Human Rights Guarantees Department of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Sharaf Karimzoda made a speech.

He noted that representatives of various ethnic groups live in Tajikistan, whose rights are protected by the Government. Tajikistan attaches great importance to the issue of tolerant living of various ethnic groups, cultures, languages and faiths.

Sharaf Karimzoda briefed participants that the Republic of Tajikistan had ratified the main international legal documents in the field of protection of minority rights, such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the Agreement on the restoration of the rights of deportees, national minorities and peoples, as well as its Protocol; The Convention on the Provision of the Rights of Persons Belonging to National Minorities and our government is guided by these standards in its national policy.

It was also noted that in accordance with the Constitution, discrimination on the grounds of race, nationality and ethnic origin is prohibited in Tajikistan, all nations and nationalities living in the Republic of Tajikistan are free to use their native language.
