January 28, 2015 in Brussels with the support of «East-West Institute» and «Hanns Seidel Foundation» was held a round table discussion on "Security Threats in Central Asia and Prospects for Regional Cooperation".
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, the Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Miroslav Jenca, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of NATO for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai, members of the European Parliament, representatives of the European External Action Service of the European Union and a number of diplomatic missions accredited in Brussels and other distinguished guests attended and spoke at the event.
Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the European Union, Ambassador Rustam Soliev during his presentation provided brief information on the current situation in the region, the fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, as well as ways to address existing problems and emphasized the need to strengthen regional cooperation.
During the discussion, participants exchanged views on issues of peace and threats to stability in Central Asia and their solution.
The sides also stressed the need to increase regional cooperation and noted the importance of the international study of the unique model of the Tajik national reconciliation and its use in solving of the Afghan problem.
