Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt were formally established on 1 April 1993. The Arab Republic of Egypt recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on 1 January 1992.

Since 6 May 2024, His Excellency Mr. Mirzozoda Parviz Murodali has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Arab Republic of Egypt. His Excellency Mr. Tamer Fathi Abdussalam serves as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Tajikistan.

During the 7th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in December 1994, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, held his first official meeting with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Hosni Mubarak.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan conducted official visits to the Arab Republic of Egypt on 4 February 2007 and 9–11 March 2022, as well as a working visit to participate in the 27th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) on 7–8 November 2022. These visits contributed substantially to the development of friendly and bilateral relations between the two countries.

In 2017, two meetings were held between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Abdel Fattah el-Sisi: on 20 May in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during the Summit of Arab and Muslim States with the United States, and on 5 September in Xiamen, People’s Republic of China, during the Dialogue of Developing Countries and BRICS Member States.

On 27–28 January 2026, a new round of political and consular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt was conducted in Cairo.

During the official visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Arab Republic of Egypt in 2007, the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Technical, and Scientific Cooperation was established. The third session of the Commission at the ministerial level was held on 3–4 December 2024 in Dushanbe, with the objective of strengthening mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation. During this session, three cooperation agreements were concluded, and a business forum involving entrepreneurs from Tajikistan and Egypt was organized.

The legal framework governing bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt currently comprises twenty-two agreements and instruments.
