The Aga Khan Development Network in Tajikistan (AKDN) begun its activities since 1992 and cooperates with the Republic of Tajikistan in various development directions.
The AKDN implements border projects, making efforts for regional cooperation. In this direction, the AKDN helped in the construction of four bridges between the border of Tajikistan and Afghanistan, and also cooperates with Tajikistan in the areas of health, education and investment. One of the latest initiatives of the Organization is a number of educational projects, including the creation of the Higher School of Professional Early Childhood Development, also health initiatives and investments in energy, microfinance, telecommunications, tourism and culture.
At present, AKDN through its eight divisions and subsidiary organs, including Pamir Energy, T-cell, etc. continues its activities.
To further expand the cooperation of the AKDN with the Government of Tajikistan, Zakhra Aga Khan visited the Republic of Tajikistan in 2017. Within AKDN, the princess Zakhra Aga Khan deals with health, education and social services development issues and in the framework of her visit was held fruitful meetings with the relevant representatives of the Republic of Tajikistan.
