Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Kuwait

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Kuwait were established on March 31, 1995. The President of the Republic of Tajikistan paid three official visits to the State of Kuwait (April 17-19, 1995, June 23-25, 2013 and May 15-17, 2016). During these visits, he had constructive meetings with the Emir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Al-Hamad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and other officials.

On October 17, 2012 the President of the Republic of Tajikistan left for Kuwait to take part in the Summit of Heads of Member States of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue.

The Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Kuwait was established in 2014. On December 19-22, 2015 a parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan visited State of Kuwait. During this visit a series of meetings of the Chairman of Majlisi Namoyandagon and his accompanying delegation with high-ranking officials of the State of Kuwait have been held.

The first round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries was held on April 7, 2015 in Dushanbe and the second round on April 2-4, 2018 in Al-Kuwait.

The legal basis of the relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Kuwait is the Cooperation Agreements signed in 1995 as a result of the visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon to the State of Kuwait.

In June 2018, the Ministry of Finance of the State of Kuwait provided assistance in the amount of 250 thousand US dollars for the repair and provision of necessary equipment for a boarding school under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On July 24-27, 2018, representatives of the Kuwait State Company "Ethical and Medical Millennium Complex" headed by Muhammad Ahmad Said Abdullah al-Asbahi traveled to Dushanbe to establish cooperation in the field of health.

On January 11-17, 2019, a delegation of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, including students, visited Tajikistan to visit projects funded by the Fund and get acquainted with the country's tourist attractions and opportunities. The second delegation visited the Olimtoy area of ​​Dangara district, road of Kulob - Kalai Khumb, Nurek HPP, Hulbuk and Gissar fortresses, Safeddara area and other tourist sites.

On September 4-6, 2019, a Kuwaiti delegation led by the Advisor to the Cabinet of the Emir of Kuwait, Chairman of the International Islamic Charity Institute Dr. Abdullah Matouk al-Matouq visited Tajikistan and met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Qohir Rasulzoda and the Ministers of Justice and Health.

On November 11-13, 2019, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Qohir Rasulzoda paid an official visit to the State of Kuwait, during which he met with the Crown Prince of Kuwait Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Speaker of the Majlisi Oli (Parliament) Marzouk Al-Ghanim, Prime-Minister of Kuwait Jabir Mubarak al-Ahmad al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabah Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah and a delegation of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

During the official visit of the Prime Minister of Tajikistan to Kuwait on November 10-13, 2019 in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of that country an Investment Forum entitled “Investment Climate in the Republic of Tajikistan” was held.

On July 16, 2021 in Tashkent, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Muhriddin met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Nasir al-Muhammad al-Jaber al-Sabah in the framework of the International Conference "Central and South Asia: Regional Solidarity - Challenges and Opportunities". The state and prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and Kuwait in various fields, including the fight against terrorism and extremism, strengthening security, peace and stability in the region and the current situation in Afghanistan were discussed at the meeting. At the same time, the parties expressed interest in expanding ties in the framework of international and regional organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
