Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Ukraine were established on April 24, 1992.
The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Ukraine started its activity in December 2010.
Since 2012 the Embassy of Ukraine has been functioning in Tajikistan.
Since 2021 Nazrizoda Davlatali Haydar has been Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Ukraine.
Since 2022 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Tajikistan is Valery Yevdokimov.
About 80 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents have been signed between the Republic of Tajikistan and Ukraine.
The fundamental bilateral document is the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and Ukraine of July 6, 2001.
Mutual visits of heads of state play a special role in expanding comprehensive cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine.
In total, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan has visited Ukraine 4 times, the last official visit in July 2012.
In turn, the presidents of Ukraine have visited Tajikistan three times on official visits, the last of which took place in 2011. During the visit, issues of cooperation between the countries in the energy sector, the creation of joint industrial enterprises, including the production of electrical equipment, the extraction and processing of natural resources and agricultural products were discussed.
Inter-parliamentary cooperation with Ukraine is developing within the framework of the Friendship and Cooperation Group of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Deputy Group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Inter-parliamentary Relations.
Consultations between the leadership and structural divisions of the foreign policy agencies are held on a regular basis.
In May 2021, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries were held in Dushanbe. In June 2021, a meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was held in the format of a video conference, following which a Cooperation Program for 2021-2022 was signed.
On April 30, 2024, the next rounds of political consultations of the parties were held with the participation of the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries in the format of a video conference, where the parties exchanged views on issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine of mutual interest, with an emphasis on their further implementation.
Trade and economic relations between Tajikistan and Ukraine are regulated by a number of intergovernmental agreements.
Foreign trade turnover for January-December 2024 between the two countries amounted to 21 million 135.9 thousand US dollars.
The Tajik-Ukrainian joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, established in 2003, plays an important role in the development and strengthening of economic and scientific-technical cooperation. In total, six meetings of the commission were held, the last one in October 2021 in the format of a video conference.
Interregional cooperation is also developing between the countries. In recent years, memorandums on trade, economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation have been signed between a number of regions of Tajikistan and Ukraine.
Tajikistan's interaction with Ukraine is based on the proximity of the parties' positions on many key issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda.
