Bilateral relations of Tajikistan with Latvia

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Latvia were established on 11 May 1994.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Latvia is Bahtovar Safarzoda with residence in Minsk. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Tajikistan is Reinis Troksha with residence in Tashkent.

Political cooperation (exchange of visits). State visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to the Republic of Latvia on February 8-9, 2009 was an important event in the history of the Tajik-Latvian relations.

On July 11-14, 2009 the State visit of the President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers to the Republic of Tajikistan was held.

On June 9-11, 2014 the official visit of the President of the Republic of Latvia Andris Berjins to the Republic of Tajikistan took place.

On February 2, 2009 the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan adopted a decree to rename the «Peak of Soviet Latvia” to the "Peak of Latvia".

Political consultations. The next round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia was held on December 6, 2023 in Dushanbe under the leadership of the Head of the Department of European and American Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sohibnazar Gayratsho and the First Manager of the Department of Bilateral Relations of the Ministry Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Uldis Mikuts.

Economic and Trade Cooperation. On November 30, 2013 in Riga was held the first meeting of the Tajik-Latvian Joint Committee for Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. As a result of the meeting the parties signed the Protocol of the Tajik-Latvian Joint Committee.

The trade turnover between the two countries in January-November 2023 amounted to 2015,6 thousand US dollars, of which 671,9 thousand dollars - exports and 1343,7 thousand imports
