The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has a great importance in the consolidation of Muslim countries and in matters of their interaction. Tajikistan after gaining of State independence became a member of this Organization on 1 December 1992. In 2007, Tajikistan became a member of the OIC Parliamentary Union. The new OIC Charter was ratified by the Parliament of Tajikistan on 8 December 2009.
The Republic of Tajikistan, within the framework of this Organization, cooperates with all member countries in order to achieve fundamental goals, such as: strengthening Islamic solidarity and cooperation between member countries, eradicating all types of discrimination, taking measures to preserve peace and international stability, coordinating actions for the release and preserving sacred sites, helping to restore the rights and freedoms of the Palestinian people, supporting the Muslim people in the struggle to preserve their dignity, providing the necessary conditions for strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding among member countries and other countries.
Within the framework of cooperation between Tajikistan and the OIC, the following activities and initiatives were carried out and implemented:
Holding celebrations at the national level of outstanding scholars of Islamic culture Mir Said Ali Hamadoni, Nosir Khusrav, Abuhomid Muhammad Ghazoli and Imam Bukhori;
Restoration of historical monuments Khulbuk, Kulob and Istaravshan, Penjikent and Gissar, Rushon and Muminabad;
Translation and publication of the glorious Koran in Tajik language and distribution as a gift to every family, as well as the publication of the works of the great thinkers of the Islamic world;
The year of honoring Imam Azam - Abuhanif Nu'mon ibn Sobit;
Transfer to the state supply of the Islamic Institute of Tajikistan and the foundation of the Center for Islamic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan;
Holding the 37th session of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the OIC Member States in Dushanbe (May 18-20, 2010).
Tajikistan is interested in enhancing the role of this Organization in addressing topical regional and international issues, and also intends to make efforts to further expand fruitful cooperation between member countries.
In the 48th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the OIC, which was held on March 22-23, 2022 in Islamabad, the Tajik delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan took an active part.
Since November 17, 2021, the Secretary General of the OIC is Hussein Ibrahim Taha.
