During last 26 years collaboration with the WFP is progressively strengthened. WFP provides vital assistance to the country by creating and strengthening a national social protection system to ensure food security and nutrition. WFP is also working to increase the resilience of rural communities vulnerable to frequent natural and economic challenges. In addition, WFP works closely with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) through local health centers to help parents reduce child acute malnutrition. Every year more than 6,000 children in the country are covered by the supplementary feeding program.

In 1995 to strengthen cooperation in agricultural sector Tajikistan joined the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Tajikistan cooperates with this organization through FAO Representation in Dushanbe, which was opened on the basis of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and FAO (came into force in March 2017). At the outset of its operation in the country, FAO supported Tajikistan in transition of the country to the peaceful life after the civil war focusing on restoration and development of the agriculture sector, ensuring food and nutrition security.

FAO has contributed to the second edition of the Red Book of Flora and Fauna in Tajikistan. This publication covers 267 species of plants and 222 species of animals in Tajikistan. This initiative was implemented by the request of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. As a result, 2000 sets of books in two volumes were printed and distributed among the relevant authorities of Tajikistan.

Mr. Oleg Guchgeldiev is responsible as the Head of the UNFAO Office in the Republic of Tajikistan.
