Remarks of the Tajik delegation at the working session of OSCE Meeting dedicated to the rule of law, including the prevention of torture, exchange of views on the abolition of capital punishment, the protection of human rights and the fight against terrorism

On September 23, 2019 in Warsaw, at the working session of the OSCE Meeting on the Implementation of Human Dimension Commitments dedicated to the rule of law, including the prevention of torture, the exchange of views on the abolition of capital punishment, the protection of human rights and the fight against terrorism, the Head of the Department of monitoring compliance with the law in internal affairs bodies and drug control of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Tajikistan Sharif Kurbonzoda made a speech.

He noted that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan pays great attention to the process of fulfilling its human rights obligations, including the recommendations of the Committee against Torture, and also adopted a National Plan of Action to implement the recommendations of the UN Committee against Torture for the period 2019-2022.

Participants were also briefed about the yet created independent monitoring group for places of restriction and imprisonment, which includes only representatives of the Commissioners for Human Rights, civil society institutions and independent specialists (medical workers, lawyers, psychologists).

He stressed that the Republic of Tajikistan has ratified numerous international legal acts that regulate issues of respect for human rights in the context of the fight against terrorism. It was noted that the work on combating extremism and terrorism was organized taking into account the National Strategy on Combating Extremism and Terrorism for 2016-2020 and the Action Plan for the implementation of this strategy, which were approved on November 12, 2016 by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
