On 24 October 2019 in New York by the initiative of the Permanent Missions of Tajikistan and Hungary to the UN there was held a meeting of the members of the Steering Committee of the Group of Friends of Water.
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov briefed the participants about the preparations for the upcoming second International High-Level Conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” (June 2020, Dushanbe) and invited them to actively participate in this process.
Ambassador Mahmadaminov also provided information on the outcomes of the first meeting of the International Advisory Committee (Stockholm, August 25, 2019) and a high-level side event entitled “Transformative Water Actions to Accelerate Global Achievement of Climate Change related Goals” (September 25, 2019, New York).
It should be noted that the Steering Committee of the Group of Friends of Water consists of 16 UN member states, including Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, Hungary, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Switzerland, Tajikistan and Thailand.
