Participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in a virtual meeting on Afghanistan

On September 8, 2021 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin took part in a virtual meeting on Afghanistan.

The meeting was initiated by the United States and Germany and attended by the Foreign Ministers of Australia, Bahrain, Canada, France, India, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Norway, Pakistan, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates, UK, as well as the leadership of EU, NATO and UN.

During the meeting, the sides focused on the issues of refugees, the fight against terrorism, the provision of humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan and the cooperation of countries to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in this country.

In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, in particular, stressed that the International community could not establish an order within 20 years in Afghanistan and left us the heritage of tens of thousands of terrorists, converting Afghanistan in a hotbed of chaos. What should we do in this situation when we have the longest and vulnerable border with that country?

Continuing his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan also touched upon the war in Panjsher. He added that the Taliban use aviation with the help of third countries to attack Panjsher, where ethnic Tajiks were murdered there. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan called upon the world community to influence the Taliban and find a political solution for the current crisis.

The Foreign Minister stressed that Tajikistan will support only an inclusive government with the participation of all ethnic groups, in which the Tajiks of Afghanistan will take their deserve seats.
